AUSTRAL Propellers - Precision Prop Technology

Austral manufactures propellers for all types of inboard installations ranging from high performance ski boats, through to sailing yachts, leisure craft, sports cruisers, motor yachts, commercial fishing vessels and workboats. Originally founded and still operated by the Vincent family, Austral is a fully Australian owned company dedicated solely to the manufacture of quality marine propellers and providing associated propeller repair services.

Performance Advantages:

  • Maximum thrust for minimum diameter
  • Overcomes excessive propeller loading
  • Ideal for restricted diameter aperture
  • Reduces slippage and cavitation
  • Incredibly smooth in operation
  • The ultimate propeller for fast premium boats

CompuQuin 5B Propeller

With today’s trend towards large high speed craft using lighter construction materials and fitted with higher horsepower engines, new frontiers of propeller design have been demanded by astute users of these vessels. To meet this challenge Austral has now developed a complex five bladed propeller design to specifically suit these new and demanding applications.

The revolutionary CompuQuin five blade design has very efficient large wide blades, which significantly reduces the slip of high speed craft normally caused by excessive propeller loading (ie basically the propeller is too small for the size and power of the boat). This five blade design is produced from CNC machined patterns which ensures exceptional operational smoothness. CompuQuin has repeatedly proven a real winner when fitted to premium high speed pleasure or commercial boats.

CompuQuin 5B propellers are available from 14″ – 52″ diameter, in both right and left hand rotation and in an extensive range of pitch sizes.

Performance Advantages:

  • Exceptional reverse thrust and smoothness
  • Outstanding load carrying capability
  • Lower RPM planing – true fuel efficiency
  • Superior performance in adverse conditions
  • Rapid acceleration across full RPM range
  • The ultimate in smooth operation

CompuQuin 4B Propeller

The ideal propeller for your pleasure or commercial boat. After extensive research and development, using our sophisticated CAD/CAM equipment, this CompuQuad four blade design has been developed to achieve a top end speed comparable to three blade styles while at the same time enhancing all of the traditional smoothness and efficiency characteristics of a four blade propeller.

CompuQuad propellers are produced from fully CNC machined patterns ensuring the geometric accuracy and quality of the finished product is exceptional. The larger blade area of this range reduces slip and cavitation, provides rapid acceleration, superior mid RPM range performance, exceptional all round efficiency and outstanding reverse thrust. However, the single most impressive feature of the CompuQuad is its smoothness of operation – this has to be experienced to be believed.

CompuQuad 4B propellers are available from 14″ – 52″ diameter, in both right and left hand rotation and in an extensive range of pitch sizes.

Performance Advantages:

  • Optimum small sportcruiser performance
  • Larger blades – means higher thrust transmission, less slip and cavitation
  • Rapid acceleration across full RPM range
  • Smoothness through geometric accuracy of manufacturing methods.

CompuQuin 3B Propeller

Using extensive research and development, CAD/CAM computer equipment and “on water” testing, Austral has developed the all new CompuFlow three bladed propeller range. This design incorporates a larger blade area than many of our competitor’s products which has conclusively proven superior for improved efficiency and performance.

These larger blade area CompuFlow propellers provide efficient transmission of thrust from the engine to the propeller jet stream therefore minimizing the slippage commonly associated with average three blade propellers. The design is also suitable for commercial users who wish to optimize their boat’s overall performance. CompuFlow propellers are made from fully CNC machined patterns ensuring geometric accuracy and therefore smoothness of operation.

CompuFlow 3B propellers are available from 14″ – 52″ diameter, in both right and left hand rotation and in an extensive range of pitch sizes.

Kaplan 3B and 4B Propeller

The Austral Kaplan style propeller is the major part of a complete ducted propeller system. This specially designed propeller is mounted within a venturi shaped nozzle which for highly loaded applications can develop substantially greater thrust than open or free propellers.

Using this system the bollard pull (i.e. thrust) of trawlers and the like can increase by 25 to 35% while harbour tugs can typically increase 30 to 50% as compared to open propellers. In fact when a nozzle of correct geometric design is combined with an Austral Kaplan propeller, it can mean the same bollard pull could be achieved with a smaller engine providing substantial running cost savings.

Conventional propellers have the blade face generation at 90 degrees to centre axis whereas the raked design has blades which are tilted at an angle to the centre axis. Austral now produces Kaplan propellers with aft rake, basically the centre of the blade at the tip is approximately in line with the rear face of the propeller hub. This aft rake design normally means a larger diameter propeller can be fitted because of greater aperture available toward rear of boat.

Aquafoil 3b and 4B Propeller

A modern style propeller specifically designed for commercial use. Compare its efficient shape with those old fashioned “clover leaf” round blade propellers. The “skew back” blade development of Aqua Foil allows the leading edges to slice through the water with ease, as the maximum diameter is not in contact until nearly 70% of the blade width has passed.

The Aqua Foil four blade propeller is designed for applications where maximum power and thrust are required for towing, trawling or pushing. The additional blade ensures smoother operation and combined with the advantages of the modern design, real operational savings can be achieved with greater efficiency under all loaded conditions.

The Aqua Foil three blade propeller is a general purpose commercial propeller where heavy loadings are not encountered. This propeller is an engineered product manufactured to uncompromising standards in design, material, quality and finish…not just made to a price.

Austral now produces Aqua Foil propellers with aft rake design. Basically this means the maximum diameter of the blade at the tip is tilted back just past the rear face of the propeller hub. This aft rake design normally means a larger diameter propeller can be fitted because of greater aperture available toward rear of boat.
